Over the past year I've been shop testing a new product for me, Starbond Cyanoacrylate CA Glue.

These glues are most commonly called Superglues.

But Starbond is nothing like the small tubes of Superglue found in most every store in the impulse buy rack at checkout.

I say "nothing like them" because Starbond CA Glues are made for regular use and won't harden up in the tube like most small bottle superglues do.

Instead, when an accelerator is used with this CA glue it cures in seconds and is super strong!

I first started using this glue when it came time to assemble my 2021, 32-sided sculpture.

After unsuccessfully trying other glues and making a huge mess, I knew I needed an adhesive that would make an instant, strong bond.

In the image I'm applying Starbond to one surface. Next I sprayed the other mating surface with accelerator and placed it in the exact location I wanted. Presto! Fast and easy! I don't know what I would've done without it.

Since that time I've used this CA glue when assembling custom basswood boxes, hexagon pencil and candle holders and a variety of other basswood and EZboard products. I've saved so much time!

My only regret is not trying CA glues sooner!

So why am I telling you about this CA glue?

I know many of you like to work with wood in your shop as well as carving wood in other styles.

Starbond can also be used to fill knots and other defects in wood. It comes in different tints to match the wood that needs filling.

...a couple of tips

1. Starbond comes in Thin, Medium and Thick viscosity.
I've found that Medium and Thick work best for me. Thin is really thin and quickly runs off the surface.

2. Also, the accelerator comes in either an aerosol or pump bottle. The aerosol seems to waste more accelerant with overspray so I prefer the pump bottle. It's easier to control where I want it to spray and how much.

3. I don't use CA glue to repair chip outs in my work. Instead, I use normal white glue. White glue allows the flexibility to reposition the small piece until it's right where I want it. With CA glue, you only get one shot at it!
