This past week as the Minnesota temperatures were regularly in the double digits below zero wind chill, I reached out to my buddy in Minneapolis to find out how he was doing.
Imagine my surprise when I got these images in his reply...
Just so happens he was in the Bahamas with some friends, caddying at the Korn Ferry Golf Tour. Do you think he felt bad for me? 🤣
We caught up about his trip and his first time caddying for a pro. His pro was a small guy, well under 6 feet tall and maybe 150-160 pounds dripping wet. And yet, in spite of his small stature, he would consistently hit drives 300+ yards. How is this possible?
My buddy agreed with me when I said,
"It's all about technique!"
The same is true with chip carving. I don't know how many times I've been told by someone who has watched one of my videos,
"You make it look so easy! It's like you're cutting through butter."
Like the pro golfer hammering drive after drive 320 yards, removing chips and making various cuts while chip carving is "all about technique."
When you take good technique and combine it with quality tools, you've got a winning set up!
Back in the day when I'd go to the Greater Milwaukee Open and follow the pros around the course, the woods, irons and golf balls they were using are nothing like the equipment they make today. They still hit the ball well but put a new driver and wedge in the hands of Lee Trevino while hitting a high tech Titleist ball and his game would be completely different.
When chip carving, the only way it will "look like you're cutting through butter" is if your knife is Scary Sharp!Steels have improved over the years, but the quality steel found on MyChipCarving Knives will be useless if it's not really sharp.
Since I started producing my own line of knives, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't send out a knife unless it was sharp and ready to carve! There's no other way for a chip carver to know what Scary Sharp truly is unless the knife they receive is one that I'd carve with
myself.

During last week's Platinum Member Live Webinar we looked at how to chip carve an Origami Pattern. This is a brand new source of patterns for me and something I'm quite excited about. Here's a little clip of our time together...sped up so enjoy our chipmunk voices
