I sorted through all of the items that Bob sent to me before he went into hospice. I've separated them into 5 LOTS.
Each LOT will be auctioned off and ALL of the proceeds will go towards refilling consumable supplies in the Loaner Kits!
And...good news is that I'll be sending out the first Loaner Kit this weekend! It's going to James who is in high school in Maine and asked that I mentor him for a class project. He selected woodcarving and this Loaner Kit will be perfect for him.
As you bid on each of these LOTS, please remember how to proceeds will be used. It's not always about getting the best deal 👍
Thanks in advance for your support and auction bids!
Go to Ebay.com and Search for "Various Chip Carving Items, Benefit Auction" in the Search bar and you'll see ALL 5 Lots listed.
IF you aren't comfortable bidding on Ebay, you are welcome to email me your maximum bid and I'll enter your bid for you.
All of the Bob's printed patterns (and there are plenty) in Lot 4 and Lot 5 are laser printed for use with your Pattern Transfer Tool. I think he printed every pattern I created!
Creating the pattern for this month's project took a turn for the worse
after I ran into some trouble carving the first pattern I designed.
You see, after making some of the very first cuts across the grain on this 10" flat plate, I could audibly hear the wood popping and cracking.
Talk about dry basswood!
But rather than stop carving and make some changes to solve the problem, like I was telling myself I should, I kept on carving. I had the whole Saturday open for this project and didn't feel like stopping. I was on a mission! ....bad decision.
When the back-to-back chips started coming out, the ridges started to crumble and flake off, leaving chip out in it's worst form because it is unrepairable!
When Shelley looked at it she said I could start over. At that time I thought I could repair the chip out and make it into a learning experience for all of us. But when all was said and done, I chalked this one up to experience and I learned my lesson about practicing patience.
In next week's Live Platinum Member Webinar, I'll be showing how to effectively carve really dry wood. I've cut this failed super dry plate in half and will show what to do with basswood when it's dry like mine.
After deciding to start over on this plate, I also decided to create more patterns for this plate because the one I first designed wasn't my favorite. Maybe all the crumbling affected my feelings towards this pattern, do you think ❓
Here is the first pattern (top left) I created and the others I came up with.
Seeing as it's Valentine's Day this month, I'll be carving the one with small hearts around the center rosette. (bottom right)
ALL of these patterns are available in the Platinum Member Pattern Archive.
