It wasn't long ago I mentioned several things that make chip carving a great hobby. One of those was how chip carving goes where you go. Right now I'm putting this to the test in northern Minnesota. Shelley and I took off on Thursday and I was sure to pack my knives, strop and a board with ornament patterns
applied.
We were hoping to catch some of the fall colors but as you can tell the trees didn't agree with our plans!
With the temps dropping and the fire starting to burn down, it was time to get in the RV. Let's see, 7pm, very limited internet, still wide awake...break out the ornament board!!
What a great hobby!
And great for Shelley too when I pick up the chips!
When I sent Ted J. his order for a box full of Shape
E, I knew he'd put them to good use.
You'll see how right my hunch was when you look at some of the creations he's already carved!
Way to go, Ted!

Check out how Jon G. "unwarped" his cribbage board and how he learned how to do this!!
I've just salvaged a warped, partially-carved cribbage board by using techniques I found in the Forum section of your website. I couldn't begin carving it again
until I took time to thank you for the many wonderful resources you have made available.
I was going to email you and ask if you had any suggestions about how to fix the warp that happened when I put it in the "steam cooler." I had watched
you talk about in a webinar from the video library. I live in St. George, Utah, where high temperatures and low humidity make my wood very dry, and I was excited to try out the steam humidifier process. What I didn't take into account was that the carved and drilled side of the board would take on a lot more moisture than the flat side. Not wanting to discard the board, I thought of emailing you for suggestions on how to fix the warp. But then I thought of the resources I had just got
access to by becoming a new Platinum Member, and found your suggestions already there. I was thrilled!
But I must say that I am even more thrilled at the excellent results that came from following your suggestions on how to fix warped boards. The "steamer" is
increasing the moisture in my wood to 11-12%, from unmeasurable to 6% - and what a difference it makes! I just have to remember to prep the wood before starting to work on it in the future. But, if needed, I now know how to fix them.
I've been a fan for a long time. I started chip carving over 10 years ago, using a "cool" knife I bought at a carving show and a Wayne Barton pattern book. I later
purchased the Wayne Barton knives and more pattern books. Then I discovered MyChipCaving.com! And I've been enjoying chip carving even more since then, learning and using the techniques and tools you use. I really appreciate your teaching methods and your interest in the success and enjoyment of your students and customers. You have created a wonderful environment for all of us.
I have a goal to take the CCCI course within the next year or so, and want to offer classes in our Community Education courses in the area.
Thanks again! I am very excited to finally be a "real" member of your group.
Jon, thank you for your
kind and encouraging words.
