Next month will mark the 16th anniversary of My Chip Carving. We'll start the party next week. 🥳
Over the years I've met so many great people involved or interested in chip
carving in one way or another.
None of us have gotten any younger as time has passed and God has let some pass into eternity.
Charley has been my friend for most if not all of these 16 years. He wasn't into technology so all of our communication was on the phone. He'd call to chat about an idea he had, crosses he wanted me to send him, family news or to talk about Bethany or Paul (my kids that he knew most about) or how My Chip Carving was doing. He loved the My Chip Carving Knives I created and was one of my biggest fans.
Last year he called me after his wife had passed
away and then again just a few weeks later after his daughter died. It was clear he was grieving and needed a listening ear.
He loved his dogs and when he'd call, sometimes he'd hear Chip in the background. So he was sure to ask how Chip was during our calls.
Last week I was surprised to see a post from his son on Charley's Facebook page saying that Charley, 81 years old, had died. I was shocked and saddened to know our phone calls were over. No chance
to say goodbye. May God be merciful to Charley.
And then last week I got this email...
Hi Marty,
I'm Jennifer, Jack's wife. Just want to inform you that Jack passed away last month. Jack fought a long time battle
with COPD. He loved woodworking and built many beautiful pieces of furniture which he also did some chip carving on. When he was no longer able to build furniture he continued a hobby of chip carving and made many beautiful clocks and picture frames, etc. Thank you for all your emails to Jack, they were greatly appreciated.
I didn't know Jack like I knew Charley. But
I knew that I'd been in touch with him for a very long time. His last name came immediately to my mind when I read the email from his wife. Another person in the My Chip Carving family passed on.
When it really struck me was when I went to update both men on my email list. I opened up the email platform, searched for their name, brought up their contact information, selected each one, and then...hit the DELETE key!
DELETE...it really got me. They were
gone...DELETE.
May God have mercy on Jack and Charley. I pray for his mercy on my life, his forgiveness of my sins, with hope that God will not hit the "delete" key on me. Lord have mercy.
This Cross was Chip Carved by Michelle!
She carved it for her grandson's confirmation and mentioned that she's going to carve the lettering on the next one she does. Perfect!

Patterns! I should have had these patterns included when these knives were first listed but I overlooked it. When I sent patterns to FH, here's his reply...
