I could only not carve for so long. The good thing about chip carving is that it can be done most anywhere.
Though not ideal, here's my setup.
The hard part is being able to see as it's difficult to lean over my work. I'm recording while I carve so that's another challenge too. Trying to make do is important, as I know many of you have done in the past.

"One thing that I like about chip carving is that I can make things that are useful as well as decorative. The attached picture shows items that were made
from one piece of carrotwood (Tuckeroo) tree about 7-8” in diameter by 16” long.
The carrotwood tree is native to tropical Australia and was brought to the US as decorative shade trees. Over time we have learned that they don’t play well
Florida’s native plants, taking over where they aren’t wanted. In Florida they are classed as invasive and it’s illegal to plant more. Birds eat the fruit and spread the seeds.
I asked for some pieces of a tree that was removed for cause because the pictures on the internet showed pinkish brown red color. When I cut into it out came
white/cream pieces of wood! A little disappointed but what the heck. I got four comfort birds, two measuring spoon racks, two love spoons and five “clean/dirty” signs for dishwashers.
I think the wood carves real well. It’s softer than maple/walnut/cherry and harder than basswood/butternut. Sands up well and accepts lacquer
nicely."
Please send me pictures of your work.
I'm always interested in knowing more about what you're creating!
I got a good start on the 4 patterns that make up Box 2 for the Positive Negative Image Carving Course.
Look at the carving on the left. That would be the Negative Image where the pattern is carved away. The Positive Image on the
right shows the background removed leaving the pattern proud on the surface.
Three-corner chip Positive and Negative (L to R) really shows the contrasting shadows created with each style.
The floral patterns on the right were too hard for me to carve considering my current situation so I'll have to wait on this one until I can return to my desk. A turntable is a huge asset when carving this one. Lots of turning and twisting.

During my PT session today we talked about my planned tour coming up in only 4 weeks. He's told me several times how the situation with my knee is not the best because of scar tissue build up. We'd be leaving on this trip before I'd be done with PT. He was pretty reticent to say anything
positive about us making this trip.
Shelley and I talked this over and feel it best to hold off on making this trip so soon after surgery.
