I hope that you've had as great a start to 2024 as I have...although maybe a little less hectic! 😆
Before moving on to this week's email I'd like to stay in
the theme of last week's email topic and GIVE THANKS to Marty for founding and growing My Chip Carving and bringing us all together in the My Chip Carving community. He has truly over-delivered on his motto "to inspire, instruct, & equip". Job well done, Marty! May God bless your next chapter!
Now that Marty has handed
me the baton, it's time to try to live up to expectations. This time of year always brings about talk of New Year's resolutions - trying to improve yourself, start new adventures, learn new things. While resolutions are made with the best intentions, it's easy to feel disappointed and down when you aren't able to keep them. When I emailed Marty that I was starting to get a little stressed out about taking over My Chip Carving, he simply replied: Don't worry, you'll get it. It's just
like chip carving, one chip at a time.
And there you have it...it's just like chip carving, one chip at a time. As I was reading through a lot of your welcome emails, a common theme involved not carving as much as you'd like. If that's you, there's no reason to feel bad about it, just take it one chip at a time. That may be watching a video, starting the course you have always planned to, downloading a pattern for later, or just stropping your knife to get it Scary Sharp for when you do have the time to make some chips!
I want to help you (and hopefully inspire you, too) along your chip carving journey, so feel free to send me an email at troy@mychipcarving.com with any topics you'd like to learn about, project ideas, or challenges you're having. And of course, pictures of your latest projects!
If you missed last week's email and are wondering why you're receiving an email from some guy named Troy. 😜 Below is my introduction video.

A great way to keep yourself carving ALL Year Long 😁
I have been "lurking" in the shadows for a few years now. I would imagine you correspond with ton of people, so won't be offended if you don't remember who I am. About 3+ years ago I ordered the premium knives and set of goodies from you so I could get back to chip carving. Well, the good intentions didn't follow through. I started a jewelry box for my daughter and then "Life happened", so I got side tracked once again.
This is the jewelry box I have referred to. I made a box joint jig and cranked out the pieces for about a dozen of these
with high hopes, and put about 3 together.
This one I "started" chip carving with again (about 2 years ago – when I bought the premier knives from you – after all the years gone by. The floral design in the middle was a bit challenging to get started with again, but quite fun. The
other 3-corner chips were rather easy. Lord willing, can finish this bugger up sometime soon and get it to my daughter for her use and enjoyment.
