After last week's email I received the following words of encouragement from Doris:
Don't stress out to much, Troy, I'm sure all Marty's folks are behind you, I know I am. Good to meet Mia, hope
to see her often.
Thank you Doris! It made me realize the reason for the stress was my tendency to want everything just right, the way I think it should be. If you asked my Mom, along with my wife, they'd tell you I've been that way a long time! 😄
I suppose that's one of the reasons I was drawn to chip carving - the challenge of making all of the chips exact
and uniform. While it's still a goal of mine to achieve, I don't worry about making a mistake so much anymore. I have my friend, Russ, to thank for that. When I was showing him a project I'd finished and I pointed out a couple of mistakes, he just grinned, looked at me and said 'Those aren't mistakes, that's character!'
I had a good laugh, but his words stuck with me. So nowadays, if something doesn't end up just right,
I say that's not a mistake - it's character!
January Project

Take a quick look at this months project, a 5x7 picture frame with a 3 corner chip pattern.
I liked the
balance of positive and negative images.
