Yes! You never know who your carvings may inspire.
Howdy !
I hope you had a great week and were able to make a few chips along the way. If not, there's always the weekend. 😉
I received several good responses with pictures of great carvings to last week's newsletter that I'll share over the next few weeks. I think you'll enjoy seeing the gifts folks are carving and the
stories behind them.
As I was reading through the emails I was impressed with the amount of thought and effort that people put into the gifts they made. I think it’s only normal to do so for those you care about, but it also made me realize it's a great way to share chip carving, too.
I don’t expect every gift recipient to jump into chip carving, but you never know who will be inspired by a gift and decide to learn how to make one themselves.
I've received more than one email expressing an interest in learning chip carving because someone they knew was a chip carver and they cherished the gifts they had made for them.
Who knows, maybe your next gift will be that inspiration for someone!
If you have some gifts or carvings you'd like to share, I'd still like to see them.
While the rosette may not look overly complex, there are still enough challenges that require focus. I am still planning on adding some color to it, so hopefully I'll be able to make the time to do so in the coming week!
Your timing for seeing gifts is quite timely for me. I just completed this wedding plate as a gift, and as you can see, their wedding is today. It’s actually an adaptation of a large 20” plate I carved a number of years ago. In this case, I should have removed some of the burst segments when I went down to a 14” plate.
Wedding/anniversary plates are my focus
in chip carving, so I like to take the opportunities when friends and family are getting married to create a new pattern so I can get pictures to show as examples to list in my Etsy shop.

Thanks for sharing Damon! Your plates are both excellent! I can see why you specialize in wedding/anniversary plates. I have no doubt the wedding couple will treasure your gift!
Slant Top, Jewelry Box with Tray, Tea Box, Double Card Box, and more!
Another amazing gift!
Hello Troy.
I always enjoy your Saturday morning emails. Learn something most times. I have been chip carving for quite some time and was a platinum member for a few years.
I send this picture of a wedding gift I made for my grand daughter. She asked me for a simple box for guests to place their gift cards
at the wedding. I chose to make a box that would serve two purposes. Gift box at the wedding and a jewelry box for life. She loved it. The slot on the front was filled in after the wedding . It had on it the date of the marriage. The inside cover had a family tree and the names of the four families joined by this union.
This was a very satisfying project for
me.

Wow! I absolutely love this gift and can see why it was a satisfying project for you. It's an elegant pattern, and I like that you made it a dual-purpose gift so that it will continue to be used daily. The date and family tree on the inside show how much thought went into it. Well done!!
