Don't forget your chip carving supplies for some rest and relaxation!
Howdy !
Now that schools are out and the days are getting longer (and warmer!), I've noticed a lot of friends heading off on vacations to take a break and unwind. Whether it's off to lounge at the beach, or going off grid to enjoy nature, chip carving can go with you!
One of the appealing aspects of chip carving is the
small number of items needed to carve. A knife, strop, wood, and maybe a lapboard - you're ready to go. Not only is it a small investment compared to other hobbies, it's easy to take with you. There's even an Easy-Carry Carving Tableavailable in the store! The plansare also available for you DIYers.
I've carved Christmas ornaments in a hospital waiting room to help pass the time, and am planning on taking my supplies along on an upcoming getaway. If you've never thought about carving away from home, now might be the time to give it a try on your next trip. Just remember, if you're flying, be sure to put your knife in your checked baggage. 🧳😜
You can even order the plate with the pattern applied!
On the Outside Beaded Rim Plate page, select 10 inch for the Size, and then use the Pattern pulldown to select 6 Point Rosette with Arches Border
Time...for another gift email!
Hi Troy,
You asked for wedding gift carvings. My first grandson is getting married in a week, so I carved and built this mantle clock. The light wood is basswood and the dark is walnut.
There are 42 pieces in the clock, 10 of which are chip carved. This turned out to be a major project, for which I would only do for someone
special. His name and his bride are carved on the back. The door serves no useful purpose, but is I think it is beautiful.
Anyway, here is my contribution.
Neil
Thanks for sharing Neil! That is quite a project with that many pieces. It came out beautifully! I like the door as well, it gives it a finished/polished look. The wind-up clocks in my family have always had a door on them, and your clock reminds me of them. Well done!

Hello Troy, Almost all of my carvings are for gifts. I worked with a young lady, Julie, who was an outstanding team member and just staring a family before I retired. We stayed in touch over the years and at some point, I asked if there was any image I could carve for her kids. I sent her some images of Asian needle point designs and the children
picked this one...based on the Chinese Tai Chi legend of the Crane and Snake. The children were excited to get the carving and asked if it was created by a real person. My granddaughter, Luna painted the images after I carved and stained it. The 10" plate is from My Chip Carving's stock.
Best regards, Fran
Thanks for your email. Fran! I like how your carvings always have a story associated with them, besides being really great carvings.😉 Those kids look very happy holding your gift, and I bet you're glad to know you're a real person now, too. Your granddaughter did a wonderful job with the colors. Thanks for sharing!

Have a great week, !
Mia was having some words with me. Letting me know it was now time to give her a treat.
The other weekend I stopped by one of the big box stores while their kid's project event was going on and it brought back memories of when I'd take my daughter Briana to them. It was a lot of fun and a great way to spend some time together with tools! It's been a while since this picture was taken - she's now in college!
