I enjoyed reading the responses to last week's question about your most used chip carved items. They reminded me of how we each have our styles and project ideas we'd like to try. The ability to look at the same project and each see something different is one of the fun things about chip carving.
Judy had the
following idea for the cell phone stand:
Troy,
I love the idea of a cell phone stand but instead of the Celtic pattern I would personalize each one with initials. What a nice gift idea.
Judy
I agree! It would make a very cool and unique gift, especially trying out a variety of fonts.
I also had an idea for another cell phone pattern. In last week's Platinum member webinar I carved this more traditional pattern:
I really enjoyed it and like the various shapes that can be found - circles, stars, and even squares. I decided to make the pattern available as an option in the store.
Patrick chimed in with the following useful project ideas:
I totally agree with you- I prefer something that can be used and not just looked at. Two items I have been thinking about is a wine box
with a sliding top and a cigar box. I'm thinking of finding a plain vintage cigar box to mess with.
I can see both of those being functional as well as artistic. I'm sure they would be used and appreciated!
Thank you for all of the responses and great ideas! There will be more to share next week. It's not too late to send in your most used chip carved items if you were too busy to get to it this past week. I'd also like to hear what you think about
the new cell phone stand pattern.
What are some of your most used chip carved items ?? I'd like to see them!
!!I've added the Circle and Star Pattern to the pattern options!!

You Really Need to See This!
Troy,
A few years ago I was asked to design and carve a medallion to be displayed on the Donor Wall at our local Armes Family Cancer Care Center. I accepted the challenge and attached is a picture of the finished product, as well as my original prototype. The final carving has
a diameter of approximately 36 inches and is carved in butternut. It was entirely carved using only my trusted chip carving knife. A discussion of the carving and symbolism can be found on You Tube under "ziegler armes carving."
I greatly enjoyed the challenge and have been very pleased with the final product.
Thank you,
Emil
Wow! Thank you for sharing your amazing work, Emil. I can't imagine carving something that large (approximately 36 inches!!) with only a chip carving knife. I would've thought you'd need to use some chisels or a different type of knife to make the larger cuts, but obviously, I'm wrong.
Thanks you again for sharing this amazing carving!!
