See the pattern to connect the wine bottle holder's front pattern elements.
Howdy !
Merry Christmas! I know it’s a few days early, but it had to be said in this newsletter. 🙂I wish you and your family a safe and blessed holiday this upcoming week.
I found some time this week to work on a pattern to connect the bottom part of this month’s wine bottle holder with the top pattern. It took a few
iterations to arrive at the final result, but it was a fun journey.
I started with the floral part of the pattern and some border chips (1). Then I decided it may be good to have more variety in the design than just the floral pattern. So I replaced the floral pattern with the centerpiece from the bottom pattern and changed the border shapes to form a square shape(2). I liked the change but then I had an idea to mimic the interior shape of the bottom pattern instead of the
4-corner shape (3).
After looking at this version with the bottom pattern I decided to add one more element: lines separating it into quadrants. The final look of the entire pattern was the following:
That’s how I arrived at the final pattern. Just when I thought it was finished, I’d think of something else I wanted to try. 😄
Do you have a special approach to creating patterns?
My senior carving group meets every Thursday at our local Senior Center from 8AM til 2PM. We do get a fair amount of chips on the floor. I am trying my best to improve my computer skills and will try to send you a couple pictures of our group (6 are missing) modeling our new shirts
and another of a "Garden Quilt" they just finished. I myself carve a minimum of 10 hours a week. Just taking full advantage of retirement.
This was my first project when I decided to learn chip carving. Each 4x4 square has a different pattern each having mistakes but I was learning. Dar
That's a good looking group of carvers! I'm glad you are able to enjoy retirement by spending time carving with fellow carvers. 😀
Your quilt of your first carvings (bottom right) is impressive and nicely displayed. I really like the variety of carvings and color in the club's latest quilt (bottom left). Keep on enjoying retirement making chips!

If you like variety, check out these ornaments!
Greetings Troy,
Just finished applying beeswax to this year’s ornaments (58 in all).
Attached is picture showing how I used your great pattern but “tweaked” it every so often. I also added the date on the
back.
I like to have some variations of the same pattern so that if several are gifted in the same family each will be different.
Blessings as we move into this holiday season!
Ted
Thank you for your email, Ted. I love the variations you came up with! 58 is quite a number, too! I still plan to carve some ornaments and may use some of these variations, too. They look like they'd be fun to carve.
