It’s hard to believe we’re already entering the second week of March, with Spring approaching! Tonight, many of us will have to remember to move the clocks forward an hour for Daylight Savings Time. While I have yet to meet anyone who likes losing an hour of sleep, the shift in time can also bring about stress and disrupt our
routines.
The last few newsletters have mentioned how your carvings have helped others, such as comfort hearts and ornaments, but have you ever noticed how calming and satisfying chip carving can be? I bet you have! Maybe that’s why you started carving in the first place, but it can be easy to overlook the stress-relieving benefits carving provides so I thought I’d remind you!
Whether carving a traditional rosette pattern like the 8-point Rosette and Leaf, or this month’s 3D Cell Phone Stand Pattern, the focus and time needed to complete them is a great way to reduce any stress and anxiety you may have. There’s also the sense of accomplishment that comes
from completing a project. 😊
So if the time change is stressing you out, I hope you find some time to relax and do a little chip carving, just don’t fall asleep while doing it!
Good morning Troy. I hope that this email finds you well and that your business is thriving. I agree with you that woodcarving clubs are key to maintaining and promoting this artform. I am a member of the NEPA woodcarvers club, and teach chip carving as a
substitute at our annual roundup and fall carve-ins. Attached is a photo of a couple of 6" trivets and a tablet holder, that I modified.

Nice work, Carl! I like the variety of patterns and how they all have a different look to them.
