Learn about a couple of the apps I have used for patterns
Howdy !
During this month’s Platinum member webinar, I walked through taking a scanned pattern and using a software program to design a plate pattern. I used a free application called Inkscape, which has features similar to Adobe Photoshop. If you’ve ever worked with Photoshop, you know that it contains many powerful features resulting in a bit of a
learning curve. While it’d be too long to go through all of the steps in a newsletter, it made me wonder what other tools and software can be used to create patterns.
The Pattern Wizard software available in the store works well for creating new patterns and patterns from pictures. I’ve created a number of patterns using it and
then used Inkscape to add some final touches before publishing the patterns for the Pattern archive. There are also times I’ve used the basic Windows program Paint.exe.
I have to admit I don’t have my own Apple device to try out the various iOS software apps. My wife has an iPad, but I’m afraid it wouldn’t end well for me if I tried to ‘borrow’ it for any significant amount of time. I have heard from a few members that Amaziograph is a great app for making patterns on Apple
devices, so I hope to try it out someday.
How about you, what software applications do you like to make patterns with?
