It's a blessing to have so many talented chip carvers willing to share their work in this newsletter. Every week, I’m reminded of the creativity and generosity in our community. Last week’s Transformer project from Carl was a hit with many readers:
“Carl did an awesome job! Did he design the
frame pattern? It's really nice. Thanks for sharing it with us.”
“Thanks for highlighting Carl’s “Transformer” project; Carl did a great job! Would you, in a future email, provide some educational insight relative to what/how to use colored pencils on a chip carving… including the type of pencil(s), etc.?”
It was a joy to share his journey from start to finish. Carl did create the frame border pattern, and I plan to have more on Carl’s coloring technique in a future newsletter, so stay tuned!
Sharing Stories, Sparking Ideas
One of the best parts of putting together these newsletters is seeing the variety of projects you all create. Whether
you’re carving a gift for a grandchild, trying out a new pattern, or experimenting with coloring techniques, your stories inspire others to pick up their knives and give chip carving a try.
If you’ve recently finished a project or learned something new, I’d love to see it!
This month's project may seem familiar. In a previous newsletter, I shared a cross from Andrei featuring this pattern that he and his brother designed. I thought it was a fantastic pattern that others would enjoy carving, so I asked if it was okay to use, and Andrei graciously agreed.
The 9 x 14 Basswood crosses do not have any gaps between the upright and arms and are approximately 1" thick.
They are fun to carve and beautiful to display when finished.
Order a 9 x 14 Cross with or without the Pattern already applied!
Troy - Found the driftwood at TWG (Texas Woodcarvers Guild) and saw a good place for a cross. I made it for my sister-in-law but my wife wants to keep it.
Keith, You have a creative and artistic eye! That cross looks great there! I can see why your wife wants to keep it. Guess you'll need to try to find them in pairs in the future.
