Learn how the patterns were inspired by this year's ornament.
Howdy !
The Cookie Molds are back! For September’s project, I wanted to design a few patterns inspired by this year’s ornament pattern. It’s always fun to see how different projects can tie together, and I think these new molds will make for some excellent gifts—whether you pair an ornament with a cookie mold or bake up a batch of
cookies to go with your carving! 😋
The first pattern is based on the uncarved diamonds and the three “beams” from the ornament. I found that both items needed to be enlarged a bit to get a crisp design on the cookies, but the results are worth it!
The second pattern takes inspiration from the top star shape. After a few different iterations (and quite a few cookies baked for testing!), I decided that larger stars looked best on the finished cookies. Sometimes, bigger really is better—at least when it comes to cookie molds.
I hope you enjoy these new patterns as much as I enjoyed creating (and taste-testing) them. If you come up with your own custom patterns for cookie molds, I’d love to see what you make! Send them to troy@mychipcarving.com.
September's Monthly Project
Cookie Molds
This year's 2 patterns are inspired by the 2025 Christmas Ornament. Try one or both! Or order a blank cookie mold and create your own pattern!
A cookie mold includes a 1.25" ball knob that can be glued on the back to make it easier to use.

Your email today reminded me of a project I recently finished. The carving spanned at least a year, and deciding on how to finish them at least another year.
I finally decided to stain the pieces to go with the checkerboard table I inherited from my grandmother years
ago.
The designs are based on Barry McKenzie's patterns, with a few adaptations. Making the blanks and transferring the patterns weren't much "zen", but carving them certainly was!
Have a great week!

That looks like quite a project, Jon! I can see why you didn't want to rush it. You did an excellent job finding the right stains to match the checkerboard table. Another great project in the books!!

Mia came back feeling a little fuzzy after getting her teeth cleaned this week...but was focused again at dinner time. 😄
