I’m happy to report the winter ‘storm’ has passed without any power or plumbing issues. The streets were icy enough to warrant school closures for a couple of days, but the roads are back to normal after a few sunny and warmer days. I hope you were able to enjoy some carving time indoors while the weather did its
thing!
I’m excited to share a special update involving Diamond knives. After years of using Bocote scales on the Diamond knives, I’ve decided to make the switch to Canarywood scales. The knife blades remain the same scary-sharp, full tang design, along with high-grade epoxy and nickel rivets securing the scales.
Why the change? Bocote is no longer a viable option from a supply perspective for me, so I experimented with a few alternatives. Canarywood stood out with its almost rainbow-like coloration—natural orange, yellow, brown, and even dark red streaks. I really enjoyed seeing each unique handle while making this most recent batch. I hope you’ll enjoy the variety of patterns as much as I do!
The
Diamond Deluxe knives are still made with Bloodwood scales and mosaic pins, so no changes there.
Have questions about the new handles or want to share your thoughts? I’d love to hear from you! Just send your feedback to troy@mychipcarving.com.
