Another method of pattern application that I used for a while was sliding a piece of carbon paper under the pattern and tracing over each line.
If you didn’t ask yourself, “What’s carbon paper?”, we’re in the same age category.
Later it became better to use graphite transfer paper because the left over pattern lines could be removed easier than carbon paper lines.
