Did you know that there are a wide variety of enhancements, changes you can make to your chip carving?

Some of these I've done and others I want to do after seeing how someone else has done it.

Let's start with a variety of finishing techniques different than a clear coat finish as seen on this month's Candy Jar project.

Get a completely different look by using a gel stain on your item before applying the pattern. When you carve through the stain you create a negative image of your pattern. This Knife Box shows you what I mean.

Another approach to adding some glam and glitter to your carving is to brush on some acrylic paint into the recesses and/or on the surface. Metallic acrylic adds more reflection than regular acrylics. I used three colors of metallic acrylic paint on this double card box after carving and staining.

Awhile back I wanted to see what acrylic dots looked like this 10 inch Outside Beaded Rim Candle Plate. Looking back at it now I may have liked it better with just the dots and no color in the carved areas. You never know until you try!

Painting the surface with milk paint and carving through is another technique. Here are some samples I found at http://yuconnie.com/chip-carving/.
