Whenever I explain to my students about why chip carving is a good craft to learn, I've always listed these three things...
1. Chip carving is not an expensive hobby to pursue as compared to other styles of carving. One or two knives, a way to keep them sharp and some basswood is all it takes to begin.
2. It doesn't take a long time to get good. With good technique (ie. learned in the Chip Carving Essentials Course) and Deliberate Practice, results you can be proud of can be achieved in months, not years.
3. Chip carving is very portable! Your hobby goes where you go. Take it with you on vacation, visiting friends and relatives or on your next camping trip. I carry my chip carving supplies in a briefcase. 💼
But, you know what...I might have to add a 4th item...
4. Items that you chip carve are utilitarian, which means in simple terms
"You can use them!"
