Dear, where to look? 🤔

In March I shared with you several pattern design programs that you can use to create your own patterns.

But you may have said to me as you read each week's message...

"Where can I look to find ideas for designs so I can put these programs to use?"

Good question! 😉

This month I'll be sharing some places you can look to generate ideas when it comes to creating patterns.

Creating your own pattern doesn't mean you have to start with a completely empty slate.

There are many common shapes found in chip carving patterns that you can adapt, combine and alter when creating your design.

When I created the 10-Minute Power Workout, I included several of these shapes in the 5-day workout so you'd improve your skill and confidence when carving these in various patterns.

April Project: Wine Bottle Holder

I created this pattern using the Amaziograph app and then resized it and adjust it to fit the top and sides with Inkscape.

Removing the shaded portions of the pattern is what's called creating a negative image carving.

If the background were carved away and the shaded parts were left uncarved on the surface, this is a positive image carving.

The video tutorial I'll create soon will show the negative carving and during the April webinar I'll show you how to carve the same pattern as a positive image carving.
