Something that will help you when it comes to getting the right depth is Visualization!
Look at the photo above and you'll see a line down the center of these 2-sided chips. The line shows where both cuts meet in the bottom of the chip.
If you were to put on your x-ray glasses you could look through the wood and see the point of your knife following right along this line.
Seeing as I haven't added x-ray glasses to the Store yet, you'll need to practice Visualization as you "see" your knife in the bottom of the chip.
It really works! Try it sometime. 👍
