I carved the trivet shown below in 2013. The top accidentally got some black residue on the surface so I removed it with some acetone. The surface was cleaned up but some of the black remained below the surface in the carved recesses so I decided to stain it.
In the Finishing Course I mention that you can use the thick goop (that's the technical term) in the bottom of a penetrating oil stain before stirring it up as a gel stain. So that's what I did with this Cabot Stain.
After staining there were some spots on the top that made it look less than perfect so I fixed it as shown in this quick, high-speed video. I'll explain all the steps in real-time in an upcoming lesson in the Finishing Course. (free for Platinum
